Featured Photo of the Quarter
Photo taken by Photojournalist Nathan Wertheimer
This photo was taken while on assignment at the 2019 Leesburg Bikefest. This image depicts Paul Teutul Senior surrounded by his fans. I planned my day for to see Teutul in person. This photo was taken in April 2019..
While on this assignment, I was photographing with my Nikon D7100 camera with a 28-300mm telephoto f3.5-6.3 lens. I had my camera set on aperture at F8 and ISO 500. The focal length was at 28mm. Then I adjusted the shutter speed accordingly at 1/1600 sec. No flash was required on this image.
Typically, when photographing a large crowd there is no flash required. The sunlight was the main light source for this photo. It is best to use the available light to capture the scene. Too much flash destroys the light areas in the image. Don’t forget to bracket your images with various shutter speeds.
Many photographers are curious how can I got this shot. Basically, one needs to to stage and wait for the main person to arrive at the event. First, set your camera on auto focus then place the camera over your head in the direction of the that person. Then shoot away. It is all about timing and the image.
This type of image is news photography. After capturing this image, I posted this on social media for all to see. News photography takes practice, practice, and practice by experimenting with your camera by taking good images. Good Luck in your photography.
